OFTED inspectors believe foundationsŠhave already been laid for improvementsŠin learning, achievement and a culture change at Upton Heath Primary.

After visiting the schoolŠin September, they concluded the new acting headŠPaula Moreton was leading the school very wellŠand, in a matter of weeks,Š“has impressivelyŠgained the confidence and trust of the school community”.

“She has a very accurate view of the school’sŠpriorities and the actionŠrequired to bring aboutŠsustained improvement,” says the Ofsted report.

AndŠ in summing up, it states: “With the support of most staff, the local authority, governors and parents she is beginning to change the culture of theŠschool and lay the foundations for improvementsŠin pupils’ learning and raise their achievement.”

Former Woodfield Primary School head Mrs Moreton - who was appointed on September 1 - has been working to an action plan jointly provided byŠtheŠacting headŠand advisors from Cheshire West and Chester’sŠ Children’s Services.

She said: “We are tackling the inspector’s concerns head on and whilst there is still some way to go I feel we are making real progress towards attaining the standards we seek.”
