AN INQUEST is to be held next month into the deaths of four children and their father from Winsford at a North Wales beauty spot.

The bodies were found in a gas-filled car at the Horseshoe Pass near Llangollen earlier this year.

They were later named as seven-year-old Joshua Young, sixyear-old Thomas Young, five-year-old Callum Young, three-year-old Daniel Young, and their father Keith Young, 38, from Winsford.

The results of a post-mortem examination revealed they all died of carbon monoxide poisoning.

The gas-filled car was discovered two hours after the children's mother, Samantha Young, rang police in Cheshire saying she was frightened for her children's safety.

She had allegedly received a phone call to her Weaverham home from her husband saying he would harm the children.

Police managed to trace his mobile phone to Llangollen and a North Wales Police dog hand-ler located the car, but it was too late to save them, A petrol lawn-mower was found running at the back of the car.

It is understood the father took the children to the Horseshoe Pass during an arranged access visit.

North Wales and Cheshire police forces launched a joint investigation. Experienced officers described it as one of the most shocking scenes they had come across and were said to have been deeply traumatised by the incident.

Deputy Chief Constable Bill Brereton said at the time the incident was 'horrendous beyond my imagination'.

Details of the police investigation will be given to North East Wales coroner John Hughes when he holds an inquest into the tragedy at Wrexham on Tuesday, September 16.
