AN INDIAN cookery fundraiser raised a mouth-watering amount of money for an African hospital.

More than 40 people gathered at Chester Racecourse for the Asian feast, which was organised by the Countess of Chester Hospital and hosted by regular fundraiser Bhupinder Virdee-Lace.

Bhupinder’s home-made traditional Indian food cooked up an impressive £1,088 for Countess staff to visit the Kisiizi Hospital in Uganda and teach the staff medical skills.

Several businesses in Chester donated prizes to the raffle and auction, including Boots, who provided goody bags filled with skincare products, The Mill Hotel, who gave a month’s gym membership at Craxton Wood Hotel, and four family VIP passes for the Tatton Park Food and Drink Festival donated by Stephen Wundke.

And Abdun Noor, owner of Chester Tandoori, generously supplied poppadums and chutneys for the evening, as well as a three course meal for two at his restaurant.

Bhupinder, who is already planning her next fundraiser, a Diwali Indian dance workshop, said the racecourse event was ‘a great success’.

“I am pleased with the amount of money we raised and it is so lovely to be involved in good causes, especially an educational one like this one,” she added.

“I thoroughly enjoy doing all the fundraisers. I’ve been doing them since I was at school, always raising money for something or someone.”
