AFTER weeks of mystery police have identified a man who died after collapsing while out running on Helsby Hill.

Almost three weeks after a man was found collapsed on the hillside police have identified him as Simon Taylor, 33, of Vicars Cross.

Police believe that Mr Taylor, who is thought to have been training for the up-coming Helsby Half Marathon when he collapsed, had recently moved to the area.

An extensive public appeal was launched by Cheshire Police when Mr Taylor tragically died of a suspected heart attack five days after he was found by walkers on the hillside.

At about 8.15am on November 2 Helsby Parish Cllr George Randles discovered a man collapsed on Helsby Hill when he was taking his dog for a walk.

He gave the man mouth-to-mouth resuscitation for 20 minutes before paramedics arrived, but sadly Mr Taylor died later in hospital.

When no-one was reported missing Police launched a large scale public appeal to identify the man, distributing an e-fit of the man and standing on street corners in Frodsham and Helsby in the hope that someone would recognise him.

Helsby Parish Councillors and members of Helsby Running Club have described the death as a ‘tragedy’ and said that it was sad that it had taken so long for the man to be identified.

Formal identification has been completed by Mr Taylor’s next of kin. Police have confirmed that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death and HM Coroner has been informed.
