AN ICE hockey winger from Middlewich has turned up the heat by posing for a sizzling calendar alongside her team mates.
The limited-edition calendar, similar to that immortalised in the blockbusting movie Calendar Girls, has been made to boost funds for ice hockey team the Flintshire Furies.
The 35 female members of the Furies, who have been promoted to the British Women's Ice Hockey League, decided to get in front of the camera when other schemes failed to bring in enough cash.
Clare Handforth, 33, an IT worker for a high street bank, says the girls have tried supermarket bag packs, mountain bike rides and car washes to collect funds, but hope the calendar will raise a mountain of cash.
She said: 'There are plenty of Flintshire girls who play for the Furies but several of us live out in Cheshire and beyond.
'Now we are competing in the Premier League we have to travel all around the country, which is expensive. The only way we can survive is by doing our own fundraising.'
She added: 'We did the calendar in one shoot in a temporary studio. Personally, I hated doing it but some of the girls loved it. Our youngest team member is 13 but, for obvious reasons, all the girls who posed for the calendar are at least 18.
'Some of the shots are a bit racy, while some are best described as 'cheeky'. We just wanted to bring some sparkle into Christmas while making a bit of cash for the club.
'At just £7, plus postage and packing, it's a great buy. It's a limited edition as we only had 250 printed.' To order a calendar, visit the website www.flintshire-furies.co.uk.
