A CITY centre ice cream kiosk burnt to the ground after an illegally parked car hindered fire crews on Saturday.
Fire crews were called to the kiosk, on Union Street at 8.45pm, and found the wooden kiosk well alight.
Watch Manager Chris Rodoway said: “A main jet got to work but due to water shortage was knocked off, as a car was parked over a hydrant. Once an alternative hydrant was located two main jets were used to extinguish the fire.”
The driver of the car received a ticket for parking over the hydrant.
Fire had spread rapidly through the wooden structure, and the 10 by five metre kiosk was destroyed by the blaze.
The cause of the fire was an electrical fault in the ice cream unit.
