BANK of America have a new man in charge of their Chester-based MBNA European credit card operation.

Ian O’Doherty heads the bank’s 5,000 employees in the UK, Ireland and Spain.

He will also oversee expansion efforts into other European markets.

Mr O’Doherty replaces Lance Weaver, who has been appointed leader of the North America Card Services business.

Previously Ireland Country Executive, Mr O’Doherty oversaw the expansion of Bank of America’s MBNA Ireland card operations, headquartered in Carrick-on-Shannon.

He is the first associate from within Europe Card Services to take up this position.

Mr O’Doherty said: “I am really excited about this opportunity and supporting the continued success and growth of our business. We have a great group of people working for us. I am looking forward to settling my family into the area and enjoying life in Cheshire.”

Europe Card Services operates under the MBNA brand, and also provides affinity credit cards for over 900 organisations including Virgin, Alliance & Leicester, Manchester United, WWF and The National Trust.

Established in the UK in 1993, the group employs 5,000 associates throughout its European operations.

A graduate of University College Dublin where he majored in Civil Engineering Mr O’Doherty earned a Master’s degree in Structural Engineering from the University of Missouri and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Boston College.
