A PARISH council is hoping to transform its well-loved but well-worn playing field.

Huntington Parish Council has already raised £110,000 toward major improvements to the village’s Jubilee Playing Field.

Councillors have also approved a £50,000 bid to WREN (Waste Recycling Environmental) which it is hoped will enable them to complete their plans in full.

The council says its scheme would transform the existing Jubilee field, which is underused, by turning it into an exciting playing field for all ages.

Cllr Mark Williams (Con), chairman of Huntington Parish Council and local Cheshire West and Chester councillor, said: “This is an exciting time for Huntington with many new changes afoot.

“The Jubilee Playing Field, which is owned by Huntington Parish Council on behalf of its residents, was purchased by the Huntington Parish Council in 1977 to coincide with the silver jubilee.

“It would be great if we could achieve our aspiration to have the works completed to coincide with the Queen’s diamond jubilee celebration.”

The proposed improvements include a new football pitch, a multi-use games area, a zip wire, climbing and swing equipment, footpaths, a nature area and a wildflower meadow.

Children at Huntington Primary School took part in a painting competition to show the council what they wanted to see on the field, with a zip wire he priority.

The application to WREN for funding is the culmination of two years of work by the parish council consulting with residents.

It is still seeking other funding and will be looking in more detail at the plans at its meeting on October 17, when it hopes to know if it has won from WREN.
