HUNDREDS of families filled the lawns of a country estate to enjoy a traditional English knees-up, opened by ‘Queen Victoria’.

The day saw more than 250 parents, children and pensioners flock to Barrowmore in Great Barrow as the estate held its first ever special invitation day.

Families enjoyed watching thrilling circus skills and listening to performances from Jan Modelski Orchestra, Ellipses Band and Facktory Music Studios, before exploring the estate’s museum where they could explore the past, present and future workings of the houses and grounds.

Crowds were treated to a royal appearance as Queen Victoria transported the fete back in time, before tucking into a steaming hog roast and sipping traditional lemonade on the lawns.
