A horse which had fallen into a canal had to be rescued by specialist firefighters.

Crews were called because the animal could not get out of the canal in Stanney Mill Lane, Little Stanney, Ellesmere Port.

The specialist line unit from Knutsford was alerted at 8am, on Friday November 7, along with a crew from Ellesmere Port.

A harness was placed around the horse which was successfully pulled out of the waterway.

One crew remained at the scene to await the arrival of the RSPCA to carry out a medical assessment of the beast.
