Pupils at a Hoole primary school have every reason to be proud of themselves after designing their own sports kit.
St Werburgh’s and St Columba’s students have launched their new kit which displays the school’s two main charities CAFOD and Macmillian Cancer Support and has been manufactured by FB Sports and Clothing, based inside Chester Rugby Club.
They are also thrilled to have a new football kit for their first team which has been donated by FA Premier League.
To celebrate the kit launch the school held a football tournament which took place at the end of term and provided the opportunity for children of all ages throughout the school to play in matches against each other in five-a-side teams.
Families and the community were invited to watch and radio station Dee 106.3 and Chester the Cat supported the event too.
Many local businesses from Hoole including The Bromfield Arms, erj Boutique, Hoptons the Butchers, The Suburbs, The Gift Box, Mr Fruity, Oliver George Hairdressing, GHQ, No 47 Traditional Barbers, Cafe.com, Fresh of Chester and LA Beauty kindly donated gifts for the raffle which raised more than £300.
Ford Evans Halshaw even donated two of their cars for the day full of balloons for a ‘guess how many balloons’ competition.
The tournament concluded with a competitive match between some of the teachers and the past Year 6 pupils’ football team who previously won the Chester schools football tournament last year.
Headteacher Kathryn Oates said: “The children definitely showed great skill and determination giving the teachers a run for their money in the final match. It has been a brilliant afternoon celebrating sport and teamship in our school and I am thrilled with our new, smart kit which the children creatively designed and are so excited to wear and show off their talents in.”
PE leader Sam Brookes, who organised the tournament, added: “We are so grateful for all the support the local community has given the school in this event and are delighted with the enthusiasm the parents and children have shown for the fantastic new school PE kit.
“We are very proud of our children’s sporting achievements and their attitudes towards playing team games and are now looking forward to another great year in sport wearing our amazing, smart new kit.”
