SAINT John Ambulance Volunteers were called out to provide emergency assistance after the fire broke out at Chester Enterprise Centre on Hoole Bridge.

Debbie Lewis, Assistant Commissioner for St John Ambulance Cheshire said: "We received a call in the early hours of this morning requesting our support to deal with the aftermath of a fire which broke out near to Chester train station.

"Our volunteers responded immediately and within an hour a team of first aiders including our County Medical Officer were at the scene providing vital assistance to those who need it most."

"People were evacuated from their homes for safety reasons and were taken to a rest centre at a nearby church where twelve St John Ambulance volunteers worked alongside other agencies to provide first aid and care.

She added: "Two people needed further medical care and our volunteers worked with Cheshire West and Chester Council Social Services to transfer them to appropriate care facilities. I am pleased to report there were no serious medical incidences during the incident today and that we have been able to offer support to the community."
