A RETIRED infantryman who completed tours of duty in Iraq and Northern Ireland will be running Halton's road race in memory of the borough's most legendary soldiers.
Lee Sanger 26, formerly a private with the Queens Lancashire Regiment, will run as a member of Hale British Legion.
The organisation is playing a role in a campaign for the construction of a Liverpool war memorial to troops who won the Victoria Cross for going beyond the call of duty with acts of outstanding bravery.
The statue to double-VC holder Noel Chavasse will also feature the names of Halton's VC holders.
The three heroes were honoured last year with the unveiling of two memorial stones in the borough.
