FAMILIES are alleging bullying at a homeless unit after a young man died by hanging last month.

Residents at Gorse Hill, Clifton Drive, Blacon, which houses up to 12 homeless families, praise some staff but say others have made life impossible.

Their claims follow the death of Sean Graham Greenan, 21, father of five-month-old Connor, who was found hanging in his room on Sunday, February 18. He died four days later.

Now friends at Gorse Hill, Dawn and Joseph Waters, have spoken out.

Mrs Waters alleged: 'There is a lot of bullying going on here. Young kids are being pushed around and they just can't stand up for themselves.'

Her husband said: 'The other staff have been A1 but there is a minority there who have abused their powers.'

Their campaign to bring about change is supported by Sean's grandmother, Mrs Higginson, of Deeside Crescent, Sealand.

She said: 'This must never happen again.'

Responding to the allegations of bullying, a spokeswoman for Muir Housing Group, which runs the centre, said that staff are to receive extra training and revealed that an internal investigation into how the incident was handled has been launched.

Two members of staff have also been suspended as the group looks into separate allegations of misconduct.
