HOLLYOAKS, Coronation Street and Emmerdale soap stars were among TV celebrities on target to help out two good causes in a football match fundraiser.

The celebrities were taking part in the annual Soapstar Football Challenge to raise money for Claire House Children’s Hospice and Alder Hey Hospital’s Imagine Appeal.

Nearly 2,000 people braved the rain at the Deva Stadium, home of Chester City FC, to watch the action between the Hollyoaks side and the All Stars XI.

And the match proved to be a thriller, with the All Stars XI triumphing 2-1.

Among the fans watching the game were Coronation Street’s Tina O’Brien and her six-month-old baby girl Scarlett – their first public appearance since the birth.

Founder and captain of the Hollyoaks team, Nick Pickard, who plays Tony Hutchinson in the soap, said: “We are all delighted so many fans turned out to see us and we managed to raise much-needed funds for two very worthy causes.”

The football match and the charity ball held later that day are expected to have raised about £30,000 for the two charities.
