An HGV lorry has collided with a bridge on the M56 near Hapsford Services, causing part of the structure to hang over the carriageway.

The incident occurred on the eastbound carriageway between junctions 14 and 12 at around 4.30pm on Monday (April 13).

A spokesman for Cheshire police said: "We received the call at 4.36pm.

"The top of a lorry has hit the Hare's Lane Bridge near Hapsford Services.

"There are no reported injuries.

"The lorry has been pulled on to the hard shoulder and there is debris on the carriageway."

One lane has been closed and there is queueing traffic.

Motorists are advised to approach the scene with care.
