Fire safety was uppermost in the minds of Scouts from 1st Helsby when they visited Ellesmere Port Fire station.

They had their knowledge tested by firefighter Clare Page before she explained which extinguishers to use on different kinds of fires, what information to give when calling 999 and also what to do in the event of a fire in the home.

Watch manager Gerry Sawdy then showed the Scouts how emergency calls were received and demonstrated some of the equipment on the station’s two fire tenders.

Fiona Barry, a leader from 1st Helsby Scouts, said: “It was a very informative visit. The Scouts now understand the importance of ensuring campfires are fully extinguished, why you shouldn’t leave candles burning unattended, and with Bonfire Night fast approaching there was some really useful advice.”
