Pupils from Helsby were among 100,000 children across the UK who marched in a Giant Walking Bus as part of a road safety drive.

Helsby Hillside Primary School took to the streets last Wednesday to shout about road safety charity Brake’s GO 20 campaign, which is calling on drivers to slow down wherever people may be on foot on bicycles, and the Government to implement widespread 20mph speed limits in cities, towns and villages.

A survey by Brake and webuyanycar.com of almost 400 children from the North West revealed that 78% would like to walk or cycle more and more than two thirds worry they might be run over by traffic when walking or cycling on roads.

Headteacher Craig Richardson said: “‘We support the walking bus event every year because we recognise how important it is for drivers, children and parents to keep safe on the roads. “Hopefully the message of slowing down near schools is getting through to motorists.”
