An 'own clothes' day at Helsby High School has raised more than £3,000 in memory of Alex Tattersall.

Students, families and staff donated a staggering £3308.46 towards the Walton Centre Charity in support of their neurosurgery trauma unit.

Alex, 16, and a sixth former at the school, passed away in hospital on December 18, 2015, after being fatally injured in a road accident.

Headteacher John Dowler said the fundraising had been inspired and led by her friends.

Pupils in Years 7-11 were invited to come in school in their own clothes, while sixth formers wore their old uniform on February 12.

Mr Dowler said: “The amount raised is a measure of the love and affection that everyone held for Alex.

“It is also a reflection of the amazing commitment and generosity of our students, their families and the staff at Helsby High School.
