Children from a Helsby-based dance school went out into the community to raise funds for good causes.

On Saturday (June 25), Danash Stage School put on an afternoon tea at Helsby Community Centre to raise funds for both their annual show and Macmillan Cancer Support.

The annual show, which is attended by many people in the village and surrounding areas, is held in October but ticket sales alone do not cover the costs of venue hire, lighting, costumes. So throughout the year, parents and friends fundraise so that show can go on.

This time, however, the girls wanted to also put something back into the wider community and chose to support Macmillan.

Parents donated homemade sandwiches, cakes and scones for Saturday’s afternoon tea event.

Some of the dancers are also musicians so they provided musical interludes.

The dance school’s competition team performed some of their solo dances in their costumes.

But stealing the show were the youngest dancers of the school, the three and four year olds from the Saturday morning ‘baby class’ who performed their Teddy Bear Lullaby and the Cheese Dance.

Everybody had a wonderful afternoon and many left clutching raffle prizes and yet more cakes.

The girls have raised £250 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
