A HELSBY couple are feeling sky high after they got engaged at 38,000ft flying to Australia.
Former Helsby High School pupil Alison Litler, 40, who works for the Arts Council, and new fiancé Andy Browne, 39, a branch manger for STA travel, both of Hemlegh Vale, celebrated their engagment in the business class cabin of an Emirates A380 superjumbo flight from Manchester.
“I was in total shock,” said Alison, who met Andy about 14 months ago in Manchester where they both work.
“I didn’t have a clue, “Andy had been to see them when we checked in and spoke to them and planned it all.
“I just thought he was having a chat, I didn’t think he was up to anything. I wasn’t suspicious.
“He must have been confident I would say yes.”
Andy had approached the Emirates team at Manchester Airport for their help to make the proposal a complete surprise for Alison.
“I was nervous as expected but the way the whole situation was handled by Emirates made it the most memorable and special moment, and a story neither of us will tire of telling,” said Andy.
“We both want to thank the entire Emirates crew for helping in the way they did.”
Shortly after Andy proposed, the aircraft’s captain shared the news with the other passengers, congratulating the couple over the PA system.
Cabin crew took photos of the couple and presented Andy and Alison with a picture signed by all of the flight team.
“I was made up, and it’s a bit of a story to tell,” added Alison.
“We could have an airplane theme for the wedding and get everyone dressed as hostesses!”
The couple are planning a local wedding, possibly at St Paul’s in Helsby, next year.
