A RUBY wedding anniversary couple say friendship has been the key to their 40 year marriage.
Angela Edwards, 66, and husband Barry, 64, of Hallastone Road, Helsby, who were married at Ashton Hayes church on June 6, 1970, say they love to travel and are going to Paris on the Eurostar to celebrate the landmark.
“Friendship has the been the key to our success, we’re best friends,” said Angela, an education and psychiatry administrator at the Brooker Centre, Halton hospital, who was made an MBE for services to the NHS.
“We met picking potatoes at the Manley Crossroads.
“I lived in Kingswood and Barry lived in Ashton Hayes, so it was halfway for both of us.
“We used to all congregate at Manley Village Hall for dances, it was real rock ‘n’ roll back then.
“We’re going to celebrate with a party at our home in Helsby on June 4 and because it’s also Barry’s 65th birthday on June 2 we’re going to go to Paris on the Eurostar.
“I’ve never been before and Barry has only been when he was 11, we love to travel.”
Barry, who retired from his role of customer care manager at BICC Helsby in 2002, proposed to Angela on her 21st birthday.
