A SOCIAL networking publican is holding a ‘tweetup’ to get to know her Twitter pals in person.
Internet savvy Helsby Arms owner and licensee Carole Currie has been using internet site www.twitter.com, a micro-blogging website, to advertise her latest menus and offers and has amassed more than 670 fans.
After receiving messages on the site from pubgoers who have visited the Chester Road venue she decided to host the “tweetup”and barbecue from 1-3pm this Saturday to get to know the faces behind the names.
Caroline said: “It just came to me as an idea. It’s funny, people will place an order for a table using their real names and I have no idea who they are, but then they will contact me on Twitter saying ‘thank you’.
“I have sent hundreds of invitations through Twitter using direct messages to invite people.
“I went through all the people who follow us based in Chester and Cheshire, and I have sent it to a couple of websites too.
“I keep hearing of all these people who want to meet up and have a chat and we get a lot of people coming into the pub because of Twitter so I thought it would be a good idea. It will give people an opportunity to do a bit of networking, a lot of companies are using it now, but also find out who people really are and put a face to the name.”
The Helsby Arms is just one of several businesses in Frodsham, including a brewery, holiday homes and an events company, that regularly log on to Twitter.
