MOTORISTS involved in road accidents in South Cheshire will be offered safety advice packs at the scene

The 'collision care packs' include a driver's guide on what to do next, contact numbers and answers to often asked questions.

These include where to produce documents, how to inform insurance companies, what to do if you have suffered minor injury, and whether you could face prosecution.

Sergeant Stephen Griffiths, traffic manager at Crewe Police Station, explained: 'We know any collision can be traumatic, even when noone is injured. Motorists can be left shocked and confused and we want to provide extra guidance to drivers where we can.

'We have tried to provide answers to all the questions and problems that arise when a crash happens. There's even a pen included because a pen can be difficult to locate in a crisis.'

The pack has also received the support of motorists.

One woman, whose car was involved in a collision in Crewe recently, said: 'I sat there feeling numb, and getting my head round what to do next was a real effort.

'The police were great, but having the information which is contained in these packs would have been a terrific help.'

Motorists can also collect the packs from police stations.

The pack also gives details of a free Collision Helpline on 08000 158 732 which offers independent advice and assistance to all the people involved in a crash.
