TOYS have started pouring in as Salvation Army volunteers gear up for this year's Christmas Toy Appeal, run in conjunction with the Chronicle.

Donations are arriving at the Salvation Army Citadel in Prince Albert Street, Crewe, and at the Chronicle offices on Victoria Street, Crewe, and Mill Street, Nantwich.

But organisers are urging people to give more as they prepare for the busiest year yet.

More families than ever before are registering for help to stop Christmas turning into a nightmare.

Each year thousands of children in South Cheshire do not enjoy the true spirit of the festive season as their parents struggle to find the spare cash to treat them to the expensive gifts their peers receive.

It can be a heart-breaking and lonely time for children and parents alike when Christmas seems to pass them by.

The Toy Appeal, which last year distributed more than 1,000 toy and 700 food parcels to low income families, asks people to give toys, toiletries, arts and craft materials, books and money.

Volunteers will sort donations and pack them into gift boxes. The appeal asks people to only donate new items to ensure every child receives the same.

Friday is the final day of registration for anyone who would like to receive a parcel. Recipients must take proof they are on income-related support to The Salvation Army Citadel, Prince Albert Street, Crewe between 9.30am and noon.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

We are appealing for toys, or money which will go towards gift vouchers for older children.

Businesses can also lend their support to help give us a boost.

Donations can be made either at the Salvation Army Citadel on Prince Albert Street, Crewe, or at the Chronicle offices at 32-34 Victoria Street, Crewe and 3a Mill Street, Nantwich.
