A WOMAN who lost her husband in tragic circumstances but went on to set up a charity in his name has been announced as Cheshire Woman of the Year 2009.
Helen Newlove has won award for her outstanding personal courage and contribution to the community.
Helen’s husband Gary was brutally kicked to death outside his home in August 2007.
Following his death that shocked the town and the country Helen and her daughters set up the Newlove Warrington Foundation.
The foundation aims to improve the sense of community and opportunity across the region, helping to address anti-social behaviour, inspire people and help motivate them to improve their lives.
Helen said: “I’m pleased the work done through the Newlove Warrington Foundation has been recognised and I’m proud to receive the prestigious Cheshire Woman of the Year award.”
As the overall winner of the title of Cheshire Woman of the Year, Helen was presented with a silver salver.
Sixty nominated women and their guests attended this special lunch at Eaton Hall in Cheshire for the Cheshire Woman of the Year 2009 awards ceremony. The nominated women from across Cheshire and the Wirral have shown personal courage, outstanding professional success, or given service to their community.
Proceeds from this year’s event will go towards the Child’s Voice Appeal. Launched in September 2008 the Appeal aims to raise £50m over three years to help grow ChildLine and the NSPCC Helpline.
