PUPILS of Queen’s Park High School have been getting used to a new face around the place.

Stephen Casey has taken over as headteacher of the Handbridge school following the retirement of Andrew Firman at the end of August.

Mr Casey, a Mancunian, was previously headteacher of Darlaston CS School in the West Midlands.

He visited Queen’s Park High School on a number of occasions during the summer term to meet staff and students.

Mr Casey said: “It seems such a long time since I was appointed in January 2009 and I have been really looking forward to joining an already very successful school.

“I’m indebted to the assistance given to me by Mr Firman in the weeks leading up to the handover and I wish him a very long and happy retirement.”

He added: “I am extremely pleased to be leading a school that has enjoyed considerable achievements over the last few years, culminating in this year superb A-level and GCSE results.

“Our aim is to make Queen’s Park High School an outstanding school that secures success and improvement, ensuring high- quality education for all our students with improving standards of learning and achievement.”
