ANOTHER 27 teachers in Cheshire now have the qualification they need to apply for their first headteacher role.

The teachers were awarded the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH) at a ceremony at Whitworth Hall, University of Manchester on July 8. NPQH is managed by the National College for School Leadership (NCSL) and is mandatory for those applying to their first headship role.

Mid Cheshire teachers receiving the qualification were Heather Bettley of Antrobus St Mark's CofE Primary School, Angela Birkinshaw from Cuddington Primary School and Chris Stelling of Winsford High Street Community School.

Organiser Keith Whitby told them: 'A good headteacher sets the pace for a school, and so makes all the difference to a child's education.

'It is a challenging role that can really improve the life chances of young people. You are to be congratulated for completing this demanding qualification, and for considering headship as the next step in your career.' NCSL chief executive Steve Munby addressed the candidates.

He said: 'Headteachers have the opportunity to make a difference for the children and young people in their school; and beyond the school gate to parents and the community.

'I am confident that this qualification will provide you with the preparation you need to take on this challenging and exciting role.'

The graduates were presented with a paperweight as a memento of the special occasion.

They celebrated their achievement in the company of their friends and families, enjoying the opportunity to catch up with each other and their tutors at a buffet reception.
