A DRIVER has been cut from his car with substantial injuries after a head-on smash.

The driver of a black Renault Clio, believed to be in his 20s, had to be freed from their vehicle by fire fighters before being rushed to the Countess of Chester Hospital.

The other driver, in his 30s and driving a grey Ford Mondeo, was also taken to their A&E department.

Fire crews received a report of the collision near to the Vauxhall garage on Sealand Road at 7.54am on Monday (January 14).

The road was closed between Clifton Drive and the Greyhound retail park at peak time, causing tailbacks to Garden City.

Two pumps from Chester fire station attended the scene.

Watch manager at Chester Fire Station Jim Payne said: “We believe it was a side impact which would indicate one of the cars has lost control. One was travelling Welsh bound and the other Chester bound just on the bend near Lookers motor sales.

“Working with county police and paramedics we removed the roof and doors to extract our casualty.”
