The head of the King’s Junior School in Chester has announced his retirement at the end of the academic year in July.

Simon Malone has served the school for the past 23 years, with the last 15 at the helm as head.

His term of office has seen three hugely successful inspection reports, the introduction of co-education, the establishment of Willow Lodge infant school and three major building extensions.

Mr Malone called it a ‘privilege and honour’ to have led the junior school so long.

“I have seen hundreds of pupils pass through my care and go on to become incredible young people and adults,” he said.

“I have been lucky to have worked with a highly professional and talented team of teachers and staff and have particularly enjoyed working alongside the children.

“As I enjoy my retirement, I look forward to seeing the junior school continue to grow and prosper.”

The King’s School headmaster Chris Ramsey, who will step down in summer 2017, added: “Mr Malone’s commitment, loyalty and passion will be missed by all members of the King’s community.

"I know staff, pupils and parents would all like to join me in wishing Simon every success for the future and a happy and healthy retirement.”
