Members of Handbridge Women’s Institute will be making their TV debut on Sunday on the popular BBC show Countryfile.

As the result of the National Federation of Women’s Institute’s 2010 resolution on Country of Origin Labelling [COOL] and Handbridge member Sybil Graham’s involvement with the NFWI Public Affairs Committee in recent years, she and fellow members of Handbridge WI were invited to take part in a discussion about the COOL mandate.

On Friday, February 13. a BBC Countryfile team of five, including presenter Tom Heap, filmed in Sybil’s kitchen in Queen’s Park, Chester.

Recent labelling proposals for processed foods were discussed, while Tom baked a Victoria sandwich, guided by the chair of NFWI Public Affairs Marylyn Haines-Evans.

Secretary Veronica Bull said: “Members had a most interesting morning and Tom’s cake, by the way, was delicious!”

The programme will be screened on Sunday, March 1 at 7pm.
