THE barricades went up at The Hammond School in Chester for a schools production of hit musical Les Misérables.

Lower school music, drama and dance pupils and senior drama students presented their version of the Boublil and Schönberg show based on the epic novel by Victor Hugo.

The lead role of prisoner 24601, Jean Valjean, was played by 18-year-old Davi d Edwards with the parts of Javert shared between Akshay Gulati and Ben Thomas, Marius (Jordan Li-Smith and Rhys Stone), Cosette (Lindsay Kearns and Olivia Horton), Fantine (Charlotte Graves and Jodie Bailey and Eponine (Nicole Finneran and Claire Learie).

Musical director was Kevin Williams with co-direction by Mandy Hatfield and Toni Cummings.
