The children at The Hammond Preparatory School had an exciting afternoon when a fire engine arrived at their school.

Thankfully this had been pre-arranged for them, so that they could hear directly from the firemen how they can keep themselves, family and friends safe from the dangers of fire.

The firemen brought a smoke tent with them, which they filled with synthetic smoke, this was to give the children an idea as to what it might be like in a real fire and that the way to escape is to keep low, as the smoke rises. They were shown all the equipment that the firemen use, tried on their firefighting clothes and now most of them want to be firefighters when they are older.
