TARPORLEY’S business leaders gathered for their association’s inaugural meeting.

Chairman David Carter greeted representatives from more than 200 businesses from Tarporley. He explained the potential objectives of the business association, but stressed that the final agreed objectives would be determined by the membership.

These objectives will include promoting the image of Tarporley, improving business understanding of residents’ needs and expectations and providing a voice and face for businesses.

The audience voted by a significant majority to proceed with the formalisation of an association and also agreed an initial membership cost of £1 per business per week.

David said: “Among various potential projects discussed was the setting up of directories of Tarporley businesses, such that residents, visitors and other businesses were aware of what services and products were available from within the village.

“This would potentially be by the publication of both web-based and printed directories targeted at residents and visitors.”

A steering committee for the association was formed and it was decided an agreed constitution and a programme will be in place by the beginning of December.

Any business representatives who could not attend the event are invited to join the association through the website at www.tarporleyba.co.uk
