A MOTHER-DAUGHTER birthday party attracted some musical guests to a Tarporley golf club.

Famous 60s and 70s band The Drifters made Linda Downey and Marion Walker's joint birthday party a night to remember as they delighted the crowds with renditions of old favourites.

Tiverton residents Linda, 40, and her mother Marion, who will be 70 next year, organised the party for friends and families at Portal Championship Golf Club in Tarporley for their celebrations.

And perfecting the party mood were The Drifters who happily mingled with guests after their performance.

The band have recently celebrated 50 years in the music industry.

All attendees were invited to make a donation to one of three charities, North West Air Ambulance (NWAA), RNLI or Tarporley Hospital, rather than gifts.

In total £1,500 was raised, including a donation by Phil Luderman on behalf of The Drifters.

The money was split three ways, raising £500 for the North West Air Ambulance, the region's only air emergency service and registered charity.

Lynda Brislin, charity chief executive, said: 'We are extremely grateful to Linda and Marion for their very kind donation. The charity receives no mainstream funding and relies solely on the generosity of businesses and the people of the North West to keep this vital service running seven days a week, 365 days a year. It costs just under £1m a year to maintain and their donation will go a long way to keeping the air ambulance flying.'

The service covers Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Merseyside and Cumbria - an area of 5,500 square miles and a residential population of seven million people. The NWAA responds to all major motorway incidents, all serious accidents including horse riding, rugby and motor cycling, serious road accidents and incidents in areas that have poor and restricted road access. On average the NWAA is called out four times a day. nThe NWAA, which claims to be the fastest emergency service for patients, welcomes any donations.

These can be made by calling 0800 587 4570.
