GARDENERS from across the Chester area have been getting green fingered as part of The Chronicle’s Cheshire Year of Gardens competition.
Earlier this year, we launched a search to find the best gardens in the Chester area. There were two categories in the competition: large gardens (detached houses) and small gardens (flats, terraces and semis).
Residents throughout the area sent us pictures of their gardens which were printed and readers then voted for their favourites
Judges from competition sponsor Gordale and The Chronicle visited short-listed gardens and declared first, second and third in each category.
The results were:
Large gardens: 1. Paul Philpotts and Alan Bourne, The Rowans in Threapwood; 2. June Christie, Brackrenbrae, Top Road, Frodsham;
3. Mr and Mrs Hocking, 17 Bellemonte Road, Frodsham.
Small gardens: 1. Ian Hall, 19 Bridgeman Road, Blacon; 2. Mr and Mrs Whiteley, 54 Marlston Avenue, Chester; 3. Keith Shone 2 Oaktree Court, Hoole.
First prize is £150 of Gordale garden centre vouchers, £100 for second and £50 for third in each category. The winners went to Gordale to collect their prizes.
