A BRIDE had to make a mercy dash to hospital on her wedding day in between the church ceremony and the reception.
Catriona Levitt, of Great Barrow, left St Bartholomew’s Church in the village after her marriage to architect Matthew Davenport, to visit her dad Ian in the heart unit at the Countess of Chester hospital.
The couple were married on Saturday, April 9 but Ian had been taken ill the previous night.
Brother Tom said: “Dad had been having a few problems but it all came to a head the night before Catriona’s wedding and it was clear he needed to be in hospital.
“Staff said they would try as hard as they could to get him well so that he could be there but it wasn’t to be.”
Tom, 30, eventually gave his sister away and read Ian’s speech at the reception at Willington Hall Hotel.
“Catriona and my dad were obviously upset that he coudn’t be there so we arranged to go to the hospital so that he could see her in her dress. The staff were great and arranged it out of normal visiting hours and even took the photograph for us,” added Tom.
The couple are now on honeymoon in Tenerife.
