THE Grange School in Hartford is top of the class when it comes to GCSE results.

The co-educational school was the highest ranked independent school in Cheshire in The Daily Telegraph league table, which was created with data supplied by the Independent Schools Council (ISC).

The table is ranked according to the percentage of subjects graded A* or A in schools entering 25 or more candidates.

The Grange is positioned at number 36 in the table with 86.62% of subjects graded A* or A, 57.89% of subjects graded A* only.

The Queen’s School in Chester is ranked in 52nd position, followed by The King’s School at 81 and Abbey Gate College at position number 287. The Hammond School in Hoole Bank is ranked 429 out of the 434 schools listed.

Commenting on the high proportion of A*-A grades this year amongst independent school pupils (60.2% at ISC schools compared with 22.6% nationally), ISC Chairman, Dame Judith Mayhew Jonas, said: “I am thrilled for all our students who have worked very hard to achieve their grades, and these results underline the immensely important contribution that ISC schools make to education in this country today.”
