ALMOST 80 golfers, including Chester City coach Jason McAteer, took part in a charity golf tournament at Macdonald Portal Hotel, Golf and Spa in Tarporley.

The 18-hole tournament was organised by adidas staff in Stockport to support their favourite charity, Coaching for Hope.

Playing in teams of four, celebrities from the world of sport joined adidas staff and other guests to raise £25,000 for the Skillshare International coaching programme, which uses football to raise young people’s awareness of HIV and to build their valuable life skills.

Coaching for Hope director Jane Carter said: "We were delighted that so many people in adidas worked so hard to make this event a brilliant success. It was a big team effort and the funds raised will go a long way in our work in Burkina Faso, Mali and South Africa."

Teams included the British Olympic Association and Chelsea, Liverpool and Derby County football clubs, with Derby County claiming first place and some new golf equipment as their prize.

The celebrities who took part included retired Olympic athlete John Regis, former Liverpool and Irish international Jason McAteer, and former Chelsea and England goalkeeper Peter Bonetti.
