Budding crime scene investigators tried their hands at forensics last month as Girlguiding Cheshire Forest hosted its first ever CSI day.

The event took place at Pettypool and saw members from across the county come together in a bid to solve a ‘kidnapping’.

Almost 100 girls from Cheshire Forest’s Guides and Senior Section units took part in a series of forensic challenges, moving from scene to scene to try and piece together the puzzle.

They were given the tasks of identifying shoe prints, fingerprints and tyre tracks, as well as analysing handwriting and testing substances found at the scene.

As well as forensic work, the units were also given the chance to try their hand at theatrical makeup, taking part in a specially designed workshop which was ran by staff from Magical Circus.

The girls learnt step-by-step how to create a nasty-looking cut on their hands, working in teams of two to apply putty, makeup, fake blood, and shards of plastic, dirt or twigs.

At the end of the event, the kidnapper was revealed to the groups who then tucked into a tasty supper before enjoying the evening’s activities.

One of the organisers, Chris Champion, said: “This event was something really different for the girls – a theme we have never done before.”

“One Senior Section member said how it had given her a flavour for forensics and that she wanted to find out more about pursuing a career in this area.”

Units who took part were: 1st Malpas Guides, 1st Upton Guides, 17th Chester Guides, Marbury Senior Section, 1st Mickle Trafford Guides, 7th Culcheth Senior Section, 1st Barnton Guides, Witton Senior Section, DEVA Senior Section, Stanthorne Rangers, and Kingsley and Norley Guides.
