A CHEQUE presentation will help hatch chicks next year.

Roy Wallwork and David Scholey of the charity Frodsham Care presented a cheque for £200 to Helsby Hillside Primary School headteacher Rob Seabrook to replace their broken incubator.

Last spring saw a mixture of baby chicks and ducks being hatched, and next year the children hope to extend the variety to include a goose and ostrich eggs.

When this second year’s chicks were hatched in the spring, they were made comfortable in a pen with a heated lamp in one of the classrooms carefully watched over by teacher Mrs Fletcher-Curran.

Mr Scholey said: The pupils benefited greatly from seeing the babies hatch and grow, as it was an exciting educational addition for them being able to see things live, as opposed to just reading and being told about them by their parents and teachers.

“After four weeks, the chicks went to the home of Mrs Peters, one of the children’s parents.”
