A former University of Chester student accused of sexually assaulting a woman using a fake penis has had her conviction quashed.
Gayle Newland won an appeal at the Royal Courts of Justice in London today after being jailed last year.
Newland, of Hooton Road in Willaston, Neston, must now undergo a retrial at a date to be fixed.
The 26-year-old was convicted of three counts of sexual assault by penetration with a prosthetic penis after a trial at Chester Crown Court.
She was sentenced to eight years in prison.
Newland, who appeared in court via video-link from HMP Low Newton, cried as Lady Justice Hallett, vice-president of the Court of Appeal criminal division, handed down the judgement.
She was released on bail with conditions not to contact the complainant.
