Cheshire Constabulary have stepped up patrols to provide reassurance to Ellesmere Port residents after a gang was seen smashing up a BMW with what appeared to be baseball bats.

Police received reports of suspicious activity in the area of Brancepeth Court and Bunbury Green about 8.30pm on Wednesday (September 7).

A group of men were seen smashing the windows of a BMW vehicle with what appeared to be baseball bats before leaving the scene in a vehicle.

In Brancepeth Court, a communal window at a block of flats was also smashed.

Officers immediately attended and made a search of the neighbourhood with the help of the police helicopter. Detectives are continuing their enquiries into the circumstances of the incident.

Detective Inspector Chris Williams said: “This was clearly a disturbing incident for residents in the area and we are patrolling the area to provide reassurance while we work to establish the circumstances and trace those responsible.

“Anyone who sees suspicious activity or has any information should contact police on 101, quoting incident number 967, of 7th September 2016. Alternatively, information can be given anonymously by contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
