A WAVE of neon arrived in the playground of St Martin’s Academy on Friday, June 19, as the pupils came to school in classic 80s disco outfits for Macmillan Cancer Support’s Dress Up and Dance day.

Tutus, headband and legwarmers all proved popular choices as the colourful bunch arrived with a donation each for the cancer charity. Other classmates - or perhaps their more knowledgeable parents - decided to emulate some iconic 80s looks by dressing up as one of the Blues Brothers, a Baywatch lifeguard and a New Romantic.

Bridgegate teacher Lizzie O’Donoghue said: “We grabbed the opportunity to help this fantastic charity in a fun and creative way and the children certainly didn’t disappoint, they all looked fantastic!

“We’ve also managed to introduce some of them to classic 80s vinyl records played on a turntable - something most of our children had never seen!”

St Martin’s Academy recently celebrated an Ofsted outstanding rating, just two years after opening with 25 children.
