STAFF at the Chester branch of T J Hughes said it was ‘business as usual’ following news that the Liverpool-based chain has gone into administration.

The firm, which employs more than 4,000 people at its 57 stores across England and Wales, appointed an administrator yesterday (Wednesday, June 29) although at the time of The Chronicle going to press the company was not named.

TJ Hughes, founded by Thomas Hughes in 1912, has been trading in Chester for more than 15 years.

The company was bought out by its management team in March following the withdrawal of credit insurance for its suppliers. The buy-out was funded by Leeds-based turnaround specialist Endless.
