The toddler tragically killed when a fireplace fell on him has been named as Malaki Hughes.

The little boy, just two years old, died on Monday morning in Saltney.

Emergency services were sent to his home at around 8.40am but Malaki could not be saved.

Two separate crowdfunding pages have been set up online in support of the toddler and his family.

One on GoFundMe has already raised more than £900, with a target of £1,000, and another on JustGiving has raised £1,815 and is increasing by the minute.

The JustGiving page was set up by Saltney town councillor Shelley Streeter.

Writing online Cllr Streeter said: “We have all been devastated by the tragedy of little Malaki’s death.

“This page has been set up to help the family through this very difficult time. All proceeds will go to the family.”

The GoFundMe page is being organised by Ellie Hughes.

She wrote: “On Monday September 12 little Malaki sadly became the brightest star in the sky.

“His mum’s only wish for her beautiful little boy is to give him the beautiful send off he deserves.”
