An avid fundraiser rode from Liverpool to Manchester in a wheelchair dressed as Spiderman to raise money for Bill Brennan.

Wamm Bamm, a fundraiser from Liverpool, raised more than £200 with his friend, Gareth Jones, after pushing himself more than 26 miles for the ‘Get Bill Better’ campaign.

Bill, 52, from Ellesmere Port was given no longer than six months to live in August after being diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.

His family are hoping to raise £40,000 as soon as possible to send Bill to Germany to receive a cycle of immunotherapy treatment, unavailable to him on the NHS.

They have raised more than £15,500 so far and are hopeful the immunotherapy treatment will help cure the cancer.

Bill’s daughter, Claire Brennan, told The Chronicle : “Before dad was taken ill, mum and I were driving to Bromborough and we saw a man running with a Cancer Research flag.

“We stopped and pulled over to ask him what he was doing. He told us he is a runner for charity and he was going from Liverpool to Plymouth for Cancer Research.

“We were completely blown away by what he was doing so we gave a donation and took his contact details.

“A week later, dad was diagnosed with cancer and was told he only had six months to live.”

Bill was told chemotherapy treatment will eventually stop working and is only being used to prolong his life.

Desperate to do all they can, Claire called Wamm Bamm and asked whether he would be willing to help raise funds for Bill.

“We called him and explained dad’s situation and he said he would love to help.

“However, he explained he’d torn a few ligaments in his leg and cracked a rib so he couldn’t run but said he would be happy to do it in a wheelchair.

“He pushed himself 26 miles from Liverpool to Manchester and he’s raised just over £200 so far.

“He’s absolutely amazing.”

An old friend of Bill’s, Sue Smith, from Ellesmere Port raised a further £180 for the Get Bill Better campaign after decorating her house on Halloween.

Claire added: “Sue normally throws a big Halloween party at her house every year but this year, she wanted to raise some money for charity so she had a Halloween tour around her house and donated £180 to Get Bill Better.

“We couldn’t believe it, we can’t believe how much support we’ve had, even from people we don’t know.”

A further £340 was raised at a children’s Halloween party held at the Wheatsheaf in Mollington on Monday, October 31.

A charity night will take place at the Whitby Sports and Social Club, on November 19 to continue to raise funds for Bill.
