SIX community groups who have shown a novel approach to promoting health and well being have benefited from a total of £1,000.

The funding, provided from the chairman’s discretionary fund at NHS Western Cheshire, was awarded to voluntary groups at the Freemasons Hall, Christleton.

The event was organised by Cheshire Community Action to involve local people in deciding how the money should be shared out.

Of the 19 applications reviewed by an independent grants panel, these were narrowed down to 10 projects who gave a five-minute presentation during the event.

The highest scorers were awarded funding and the six successful applicants were Chester Talking Newspaper, The Samaritans of Chester and District, Lache Garden Village Project, Helsby Tennis Club, Live! and Deva Flamenco.

NHS Western Cheshire chairman John Church said: “We were really delighted with the quality and quantity of all of the applicants.

“We were spoilt for choice and really pleased to have such a strong field from which to make our final selection.

“I congratulate the winners and I am sure the local communities they serve will continue to gain great benefit from their hard work in future.”

He added that those who were unsuccessful on the night had been given an excellent opportunity to promote their activities.
