FUN, laughter and bell ringing marked the opening of a children’s charity shop as shoppers searched for bargains.

Last Thursday shoppers waited eagerly for the first Claire House Hospice shop to officially open its doors in Frodsham Street, Chester.

Real Radio presenter Glen Hunt was joined by Cheshire Jets star Matthew Schneck and Claire House chief executive David Pastor to cut the ribbon to the shop, which marked the opening of the children’s hospice’s 22nd store.

Busy shoppers stood and stared as Chester’s town crier David Mitchell rang his bell and proudly announced the opening of the shop to passers-by.

And a week after the opening staff and volunteers are celebrating a successful first week of trading as bargain hunters flocked in their dozens to search among the racks of clothes, books, toys and CDs and DVDs and enjoy a cuppa in the coffee lounge upstairs.

Simon Dodd, head of retail for Claire House, said: “I was absolutely delighted with the turnout at the shop last week; we had a real rush when the doors first opened, with dozens of Chester shoppers keen to grab a bargain.

“The hospice needs more than £6,500 every day to provide a first-class level of care. By donating to our shops or buying from us, you are supporting families from Chester who rely on our services.”
