GUESTS at a popular hospitality venue were given a frosty reception this week.

Oddfellows, whose design is partly inspired by Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, turned to C S Lewis’ The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe as the theme for a lavish party thrown at the Bridge Street establishment.

The 260 guests wandered through a real life wardrobe stuffed with fur coats and were treated to a spectacular winter wonderland on Tuesday.

Narnia was impressively recreated with a snow machine, snow cave, decorative icicles, Christmas trees and characters from the popular children’s book including Mr Tumnus and The Ice Queen.

Guests were treated to an evening buffet, roasted chestnuts, mulled wine and champagne.

Commercial director Izzy Grey, who hosted the evening, said: “Narnia is everyone’s favourite story so we knew our guests would enjoy the theme, and enjoy lovely food and delicious drinks. We sincerely want to continue making peoples wishes come true.”

She added: “When we opened Oddfellows, we wanted to enchant people. We really wanted to make our members and their guests feel so special by giving them a party that they would remember for a very long time.”

Oddfellows employs 55 people and represents a £3.25m investment by Lister Carter Associates including a public bar and restaurants, a walled garden, plus four bedrooms graded as five star and a private members’ lounge.
